To reduce the burden of public transport costs, the K-Pass service was launched.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 1st day, the K-Pass project will be seriously implemented starting today. K-Pass is a service that refunds a certain percentage of the amount spent for the following month if you regularly use city/village buses, subways, metropolitan buses or metropolitan area rapid transit (GTX). The reimbursement rate is 20% for the general public, 30% for youth and 53% for the low-income group.

You must use your K-Pass to use public transportation at least 15 times a month. Public transportation costs equivalent to up to 60 doses are accumulated and used as the basis for reimbursement. In the first month of your subscription you will be reimbursed even if you use it less than 15 times a month, but subsequently you will have to use it more than 15 times a month.

However, for transportation costs above 200,000 won, the refund rate is reduced by half. For example, for a normal adult whose monthly expenditure is 190,000 won, a refund rate of 20% is applied to the full amount of 190,000 won, but for a normal adult with a monthly expenditure of 220,000 won, the total is 210,000 won, which is the sum of 200,000 won and 10,000 won, or 50% of 20,000 won. A 20% refund rate applies.

The reimbursement method also varies depending on the card issued. Check cards are deposited into linked accounts. Credit card payments are automatically deducted from the payment amount. Rechargeable prepaid cards can be topped up with the accumulated amount via the application.

To use K-Pass, you need to obtain a dedicated card through a credit card company and then register as a member. If you are a current Economy Transit Card user, you can complete the membership conversion process through the Economy Transit Card app or website without issuing a new card. Membership conversion must be completed as K-Pass benefits will not apply until membership conversion is complete. It is not convertible after June 30th.

From this day, “The Gyeonggi Pass” and “Incheon I-Pass” will also be launched, specialized services for residents of Gyeonggi Province and Incheon City. Meanwhile, as of the 30th of last month, the number of K-Pass users exceeded one million. There are around 250,000 applicants for the issuance of new cards and around 820,000 people have converted to low-cost transport cards.
