[철도경제신문=장병극 기자] From the 1st of next month, the ‘K-Pass’, which allows you to receive a refund of a certain percentage of the cost of public transportation, will begin full operation.

Unlike the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s ‘Climate Companion Card’, which can be used unlimitedly within the Seoul area, it can be used nationwide, and 20% of the amount used for the general public can be refunded. Advance card issuance also began today (24th).

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Metropolitan Transportation Committee announced that they will begin issuing K-Pass cards jointly with 10 partner card companies starting on the 24th.

K-Pass is a system that refunds a certain percentage of transportation expenses to citizens who regularly use public transportation.

General users will receive a 20% refund, young people will receive a 30% refund, and low-income people will receive a 53% refund.

This benefit applies if you use public transportation at least 15 times a month, and is scheduled to be implemented in earnest from the 1st of next month. In addition to city/village buses and metropolitan buses nationwide, the GTX, which opened on the 30th of last month, is also included.

Each participating card company is expected to provide a variety of additional benefits depending on card usage performance, contributing to reducing the burden of transportation costs on the public. Detailed information can be found on each card company’s official website.

In order to receive K-Pass benefits, you must not only issue a card, but also go through the process of converting from an existing economical transportation card member to a K-Pass or sign up as a new member.

Existing economical transportation card users can easily convert to K-Pass online without any additional procedures.

New subscribers can sign up through the K-Pass official app or website, which will be released on the 1st of next month.

Ahead of the launch of K-Pass, Chairman Kang Hee-eop said, “We plan to issue cards a week before the start of the business so that users can enjoy the benefits right from the launch date,” and added, “We will carry out various promotional activities to ensure a successful launch and wide participation from the public.” “We will proceed,” he said.
