SM Entertainment Launches Running and Concert Events
SM Entertainment held an event called SM Town Run Club 26 on October 3 at Wangsan Marina Harbor on Yeongjong Island in Incheon, featuring running and live performances. Participating artists completed a 10-kilometer run alongside fans before delivering a 60-minute special concert.
The event drew inspiration from SM London Run, which took place in London in July of the previous year when Shinee member Minho ran through the city alongside fellow label artists. SM Entertainment subsequently organized a Japanese running event last month, offering Minho’s handwritten messages, limited-edition postcards, and personalized completion certificates to participants who logged at least 15,000 steps over seven days using the local health application AU Wellness.
Music Platforms Release Workout Playlists and Tracking Tools
Genie Music launched a music recommendation service tailored to workout habits and physical condition in April, followed by a running record storage and sharing feature in July. The platform allows users to format running logs into shareable cards paired with music for social media.
Melon provides running playlists divided into four levels based on exercise intensity, utilizing Kakao characters such as Apeach and Choonsik as DJs, alongside AI-generated running tips and community-recommended tracks. Spotify operates a Run Seoul playlist offering curated tracks matched to running phases, supplemented by voice messages from Shinee member Minho recorded for different milestones including starts, maintaining pace, challenging sections, and approaches to the finish line.
Marathon Participation Surges Alongside Retail Growth
The integration of music and running follows a sharp rise in domestic running participation across South Korea. National Police Agency records show that domestic marathon participants grew from 9,030 individuals in 2020 to 1,008,122 individuals by 2024. Meanwhile, fashion platform Musinsa reported an 83 percent year-over-year increase in running shoe sales.
Kakao Friends Run 2026 Scheduled in Seongnam
Kakao is scheduled to host the Kakao Friends Run 2026 on October 10 at Tancheon Sports Complex in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, with an expected turnout of 11,000 participants. Music industry representatives note that the running market aligns with music intellectual property strategies by unifying listening habits, artist-fan communication, and offline events to strengthen user retention.
