Kamal Haasan Extends Condolences to Parents of Kerala’s Youngest Organ Donor
Actor Kamal Haasan has expressed his profound sorrow and offered solace to the parents of Alin Sherin Abraham, the ten-month-old infant who became Kerala’s youngest organ donor following a tragic accident. The actor’s message, shared on social media, acknowledged the immense grief of Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann John while celebrating the life-saving gift their daughter gave to five other children.
Alin Sherin Abraham’s story has resonated deeply across Kerala and beyond. The infant sustained critical injuries in a road accident and was initially treated at a hospital in Kottayam. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, her condition deteriorated and she was transferred to Amrita Hospital in Kochi, where she was later declared brain dead. In the face of unimaginable loss, her parents made the courageous decision to donate her organs – her liver, both kidneys, heart valve, and eyes – offering a second chance at life to others.
“Salute to Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann John,” Kamal Haasan wrote in a post translated from Malayalam. “Our little Alin Sherin Abraham lived for months within her mother, and ten months embraced by her parents’ boundless love. Now, she will help five other babies live better lives.”
He continued, addressing the grieving parents directly: “By mindset and by heart, you are – and will always remain – loving parents. Please retrieve your happiness through life. You both truly deserve it.”
The selfless act of organ donation has been widely praised, with many online referring to Alin as “an angel.” Her organs have already given new life to at least four recipients: a six-month-old and a ten-year-old received her kidneys, and her liver was transplanted into another child. The donated heart valve and eyes offer hope to further recipients.
The tragedy unfolded after a vehicle struck Alin, a resident of Mallappally West Valummel, resulting in severe injuries. Following initial treatment in Kottayam, the family sought advanced care at Amrita Hospital in Kochi, where doctors determined the extent of the damage was irreversible. The subsequent declaration of brain death led to the difficult but ultimately life-affirming decision regarding organ donation.
Kamal Haasan’s tribute joins a chorus of condolences and admiration for the family’s extraordinary courage. The story serves as a poignant reminder of the profound impact of organ donation and the possibility of finding light even in the darkest of times. The parents, Arun and Sherin, have demonstrated remarkable strength in the face of devastating loss, choosing to transform their personal tragedy into a legacy of hope and healing for others.
