Former Vice President Kamala Harris signaled on April 10, 2026, that she is considering a third run for the presidency in 2028. Harris, who was the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, made the comments during the National Action Network’s annual convention in New York.

During the event, Reverend Al Sharpton asked Harris directly if she intended to run for president in 2028. Harris responded by stating, Listen, I might. I’m thinking about it. I’m thinking about it.

Experience and Qualifications

Harris cited her previous government experience as a primary reason for her consideration of another bid. She noted her four-year tenure as vice president, describing herself as having been a heartbeat away from the presidency of the United States.

Experience and Qualifications

I spent countless hours in the Oval Office and the Situation Room. I know what the job is, and I know what it requires.

The exchange between Harris and Sharpton also touched upon a previous meeting at Sylvia’s Restaurant in Harlem. When Sharpton asked if he should reserve a table at the restaurant to clear his calendar for her return, Harris replied, You save me a seat, I’ll be there.

Political Context and Competition

The National Action Network convention served as a gathering for several ambitious Democrats. More than a half-dozen other potential 2028 presidential candidates appeared at the event throughout the week.

These candidates sought to make inroads with Black voters, who comprise a significant portion of the Democratic primary base. According to reporting from Politico, this demographic will play a major role in determining the party’s next presidential nominee.

Harris indicated that her level of engagement in the next election cycle would increase. She stated that she has been involved in every presidential election in some fashion since she was an adult and able to vote.

Regarding the 2028 cycle, Harris said she is going to be more involved than ever before in 2028 because we can’t lose.
