According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on eastbound Interstate 70 at the 166-mile marker, east of Williamsburg. The crash happened shortly before 10 p.m.
The vehicle involved was a 2014 Toyota Tundra driven by a 29-year-old man from Kansas City. A 30-year-old woman was traveling as a passenger in the vehicle.
Incident Details
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the Toyota Tundra initially ran off the left side of the roadway. The driver steered the vehicle back to the right to return to the interstate, but subsequently overcorrected.
This overcorrection caused the vehicle to travel off the right side of the road. The truck then overturned several times down an embankment and struck multiple trees before coming to a stop.
Both occupants sustained serious injuries in the crash. The 29-year-old driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, while the 30-year-old passenger was wearing one.
Emergency responders from a Montgomery County ambulance transported both individuals to University Hospital for treatment.
