‘Traitors Ireland‘ Contestants Speak Out Against Online Abuse: “It’s Just a Game!”
Slane Castle, Ireland – The glitz and glamour of RTÉ’s Traitors Ireland has been marred by a darker side: online abuse.Katelyn, an organizational development consultant from near Headford, Galway, and Eamon, a Garda Síochána member from Cahir, Tipperary, have both spoken out against the “antagonistic and critical” commentary they’ve received since their banishment from the show.
The pair, revealed as Traitors in recent episodes, have faced a barrage of online criticism. Katelyn admitted to blocking some users due to what she described as “borderline harassing” behavior.
“It’s the first time there’s been an Irish version of the show,” Katelyn explained. “Playing the game and watching it back, I don’t think I did anything that would justify some of the commentary that I got. I went in to create a character and play a villain, and maybe I deserve some of the comments, but I think some of the comments I’ve gotten where a bit gendered and a bit loaded.”
She added, “It is a little bit sad that in 2025 that when a woman shows a little bit of strength, it attracts such disproportionate hostility.I stood up for myself. I’m a strong person, I’m very resilient, and I’m also very happy that I have a lot of love and happiness in my life.”
Eamon echoed Katelyn’s sentiments, emphasizing the nature of the show. “It’s a TV show first and foremost and it’s a game. It’s called The Traitors for a reason. A lot of Irish audiences will be watching the show for the first time, so some people probably don’t grasp the concept,” he said. “I played a pure character; it’s a bit of fun.you have to do stuff that’s a little bit underhanded and that’s the nature of the game.”
he further clarified,”What you see on screen isn’t real life,it’s a bit of fun. I purposefully went out there to create a character for the country to root against, and I think the majority of people watching the show can take it for what it is indeed.”
Despite the negativity, both contestants expressed gratitude for the support they’ve received. Katelyn highlighted the “lot more love than hate,” while Eamon shared the “unbelievable support” from his Garda colleagues, who are “loving the memes.”
Looking ahead, both Katelyn and Eamon are rooting for remaining Traitor Paudie. Eamon even called him “a superstar,” and Katelyn expressed her delight at the “Pa
