KATSEYE’s Manon Bannerman has stated she is “having positive conversations” with her label, HYBE x Geffen, following the announcement of a “temporary hiatus” from the group in February. The update comes amid speculation about her future with the Grammy-nominated Los Angeles girl group, fueled by her absence from recent promotional material and a change to her Instagram profile.
Hybe and Geffen Records announced Manon’s hiatus on February 20, stating the decision came after “open and thoughtful conversations” and that the group would continue scheduled activities during her absence. The label expressed its support for Manon’s decision to focus on her health and wellbeing.
Shortly after the announcement, Manon addressed fans directly via Weverse, assuring them she was “healthy, okay, and taking care of myself.” She acknowledged that circumstances can unfold unexpectedly but expressed trust in a larger plan, according to Billboard.
Recent developments have led to increased uncertainty about Manon’s long-term status with KATSEYE. She was not featured in a teaser for the group’s upcoming single, ‘Pinky Up,’ released on April 2, and has removed “Katseye” from her Instagram bio.
Responding to fan concerns, Manon again took to Weverse on Thursday, April 3, to share an update. “Thank you so much for all the love and support you’ve been sending my way,” she wrote, as reported by Forbes. “I’m really grateful for the patience and kindness everyone has shown during this time. HxG and I are having positive conversations and I feel supported. I’m happy and I’m healthy. I’ll share more soon. Thank you for always being there for me.”
The group is preparing for their debut performance at Coachella later this month, but none of the other five members have publicly commented on Manon’s hiatus.
Manon’s situation has drawn attention to broader issues faced by Black women in girl groups. Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock publicly voiced her support for Manon, stating in a recent interview that there is a “vicious cycle going on right now with Black girls in girl groups.” Pinnock highlighted the pattern of challenges faced by Black women in these groups and expressed her support for Manon speaking out.
KATSEYE released their EP ‘Beautiful Chaos’ last year, with the single ‘Gnarly’ receiving critical acclaim, including being named the fifth best song of 2025 by NME. In an interview with NME last year, Manon reflected on ‘Gnarly,’ expressing her excitement about the song’s explicit lyrics.
The release of ‘Pinky Up’ is scheduled for April 9. The group shared a teaser for the music video on Twitter on April 2.
