Updated May 29, 2025
Racing Louisville FC forward Kayla Fischer will miss the next three games due to suspension. The NWSL Disciplinary Committee handed down the ban after Fischer received a red card for pulling Angel City FC midfielder Madison Hammond’s hair during Saturday’s match.
The incident occurred in the 67th minute of Louisville’s 3-2 victory over Angel City. Video review confirmed Fischer’s infraction, leading to her ejection and a penalty kick for Angel City, which Alyssa Thompson converted.
Fischer’s suspension highlights the NWSL’s commitment to player safety and conduct. The disciplinary committee reviews all major game misconducts, ensuring fair play and addressing on-field altercations.
The suspension means Fischer is ineligible to play untill August 1, missing three crucial games for Racing Louisville as they approach the NWSL’s summer break. This absence impacts the team’s offensive lineup, as Fischer has been a consistent starter, contributing two goals and two assists this season.

“I would like to apologize to Madison Hammond and angel City for my actions last weekend,” Fischer said. “It was never my intention to be overly aggressive while defending a corner, and I sincerely regret my behavior and letting my teammates down. I accept and understand the league’s decision.”
fischer’s suspension is not unprecedented. In 2017, Tyler Lussi and Merritt Mathias each received three-game suspensions for similar hair-pulling incidents. Ludmila of the Chicago Stars also faced a suspension last year for putting her hands on an opponent’s head and appearing to pull her hair.
This marks the second major suspension for a Louisville player recently. Ary Borges was previously suspended for an altercation with a referee, further impacting the team’s roster.
What’s next
Racing Louisville will face Utah Royals FC on June 6. Borges will be eligible to return, but the team will have to adjust their strategy without Fischer’s presence on the field.
