Kenny Omega Targets IWGP Heavyweight Title at Wrestle Kingdom 21

Kenny Omega is targeting the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 21 after proposing a three-way match following his appearance at NJPW King of Pro Wrestling, VoxCatch reported.

Kenny Omega Challenges Yota Tsuji For Wrestle Kingdom 21

Appearing on October 12, 2026, at NJPW King of Pro Wrestling inside the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Kenny Omega confronted IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji. Earlier in the event, Tsuji successfully defended his title against G1 Climax winner Ryohei Oiwa in the main event. Omega appeared via video before arriving in person to attack both Tsuji and Oleg Boltin on the ring. Omega proposed a three-way match at NJPW Power Struggle involving himself, Tsuji, and Boltin. While that upcoming bout will not be for the championship, the winner will earn a one-on-one title match against Tsuji at Wrestle Kingdom 21 on January 4, 2027.

Generational Clash And Forbidden Door Friction

During his promo, Kenny Omega stated he was representing both All Elite Wrestling and the older generation of New Japan Pro-Wrestling, positioning Yota Tsuji as the representative of NJPW’s new era. Omega criticized the reigning champion for declining to travel to the United States for the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event earlier that year. Tsuji responded by telling Omega he needed to appear in person if he wanted to issue a challenge, prompting Omega’s sudden arrival at the venue alongside Oleg Boltin’s own challenge to the champion.

New Japan History And Prior Championship Reigns

This appearance marks Kenny Omega’s first match-related presence for NJPW in Japan since January 2025 at Wrestle Dynasty, where he defeated Gabe Kidd. Omega’s last reign as IWGP Heavyweight Champion took place in 2018, when he held the belt for more than 200 days after defeating Kazuchika Okada in a two-out-of-three falls match at NJPW Dominion 6.9 on June 9, 2018.
