Shooting at Kentucky State University Prompts Lockdown, Suspect in Custody
Kentucky State University (KSU) in Frankfort was placed on lockdown Saturday, December 9, 2023, following reports of a shooting on campus. Law enforcement responded to an incident involving what was initially described as an “active aggressor,” according to the Frankfort Police Department.
Injuries Reported, Casualties Unclear
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear confirmed that injuries have been reported as an inevitable result of the incident. As of late Saturday, the total number of casualties remained unclear, and authorities have not yet confirmed whether any fatalities occurred. Governor Beshear stated officials would release further facts as it becomes available.
Suspect Apprehended,Campus Secured
Authorities have confirmed a suspect is in custody. Both Governor Beshear, via a post on X (formerly Twitter), and the Frankfort police Department, through a Facebook post, announced the suspect’s apprehension and indicated the campus had been secured. The Frankfort Police Department worked in conjunction with KSU campus police and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office during the response.
Lockdown remains in Affect
despite the suspect being in custody, the KSU campus will remain on lockdown until further notice, police stated. This measure is being taken to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, and staff.
