Lexington, KY – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has delayed the activation of new traffic lights at the intersection of Winchester Road and Hume Road, according to a report from WKYT. The lights, which were part of a construction project at the intersection, were originally scheduled to become fully operational on Friday, May 1st, around 9:00 a.m.
Instead, the KYTC has pushed the activation date back to May 5th. Currently, the intersection is using yellow flashing caution lights to manage traffic flow. The reason for the delay has not yet been released by the KYTC, WKYT reported.
The delay impacts traffic on Winchester Road, a major thoroughfare in Lexington. Construction at the intersection has been ongoing and the new traffic signal was intended to improve safety and traffic flow once activated.
According to MSN, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet initially announced on Tuesday that the signal at the intersection of Winchester and Commerce roads would transition from flash mode to fully operational at 9:30 a.m. This week. However, this timeline has now been adjusted.
The Lexington Herald Leader reported on Wednesday that the new traffic light would be activated next Tuesday, May 5th, at the intersection on Winchester Road. This aligns with the updated activation date provided by the KYTC and reported by WKYT.
WKYT stated that they will continue to update the story as more information becomes available regarding the reason for the delay and any potential impacts on traffic patterns.
