: Ivan Vukomanovic as the head coach of Kerala Blasters came out on Friday night with a decision that shocked the fans who strongly believed that he would be with him for the next season as well. The Serbian coach and the Blasters parted ways by mutual understanding with one year remaining on his contract.

Vukomanovic steps down after leading the team to the finals in his first season and then to the playoffs in two consecutive seasons.

Asan II

The Blasters football team has two captains. The first is the Englishman Steve Koppel, who coached the team in the 2016-17 season. The second is Vukomanovic, who landed the team from 2021 to this season. Fans called both of them Aashan with immense love.

Both left Ashan with dignity from the Blasters hot seat, which tried 11 coaches in 10 seasons of ISL. No one has won more fans as a Blasters coach than Vukomanovic.

unexpected

Vukomanović’s arrivals and departures are unexpected. Vukomanovic made a surprise appearance at the battered Blasters in 2021. Sporting director Karolis Skinkis found the Serbian coach from more than sixty applications. Most people thought that a completely unfamiliar coach would not last long at the club. However, by using the available players in the best possible way, not stopping the lost experiments and giving opportunities to the young players, the team became a successful team. The team managed to reach the finals in the 2021-22 season. Made it to the playoffs next season and the current season.

Future Blasters

Vukomanovic was the subject of controversy last season when the team walked off the field in protest at a controversial refereeing decision during a play-off match against Bengaluru FC. This decision resulted in huge fines. The coach was also banned for 10 games. Apart from this incident, Vukomanovic has been a clean coach for the Blasters.

With the Serbian coach stepping aside, there is concern that the club’s plans, including the development of young players, will fail. The next coach’s challenge is to keep the Blasters, who have become a successful team, the same.
