Kerala Braces for Torrential Downpour: Yellow Alert Issued in 4 Districts as Heavy Rains and Thunderstorms Loom Large
The Central Meteorological Department said that there is a possibility of heavy rain in the state today. No warning has been issued in any district for the next two days. Meanwhile, a yellow alert was announced in several districts on Friday and Saturday. Light rain with thunder and lightning is expected in isolated locations.

A yellow alert has been announced in the districts. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is forecast. Heavy rain means precipitation of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
The Central Meteorological Department has informed that light rain is likely at isolated places of Thiruvananthapuram district in the next 3 hours (announced at 1 pm).
A cyclonic vortex is located over the Strait of Mannar and Sri Lanka. Another cyclonic gyre is located in the central part of the southern Bay of Bengal. A cyclonic gyre is located in the middle of the South Arabian Sea. Light/moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in Kerala for the next 5 days. The Central Meteorological Department said that there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places on November 5, 8 and 9.
Fisherman alarm
The Central Meteorological Department has informed that there will be no fishing disruption in Kerala – Karnataka – Lakshadweep coasts today (05/11/2024).

08/11/2024: Chance of strong winds and severe weather conditions over southern coastal Andhra Pradesh, northern coastal Tamil Nadu and adjacent western central-southwestern Gulf of Bengal with a speed of 35 to 45 km/h occasionally up to 55 km/h.
The Central Meteorological Department has informed that rain with thunder and lightning is likely at isolated places in Kerala on November 5, 8 and 9.
Precautions
Thunderstorms are dangerous. They cause serious damage to human and animal life, electrical and communications networks, and household appliances connected to electrical conductors. Therefore, the public should take the following precautions from the moment the cloud begins to be seen. Do not hesitate to take this precaution as lightning may not always be visible.
Move indoors immediately at the first sign of lightning. Staying in open areas increases the risk of lightning.
Keep windows and doors closed during periods of high winds and storms. Stay away from doors and windows. Stay inside the building and try not to touch the wall or floor as much as possible.
Unplug appliances. Avoid proximity to electrical appliances during thunderstorms.

Avoid playing outdoors and on terraces, including children, if the weather is cloudy.
Don’t stand under trees during thunderstorms. Do not park vehicles under trees.
