Kerala Rains | Landslide in Idukki Kokkayar; Eight people are missing in two houses

Eight people are reported missing in a landslide in Idukki Kokkayar. In Kokkayar village, four houses were reportedly washed away in Makochi and Poovanchi. Eight people are missing in two houses. Preliminary information is that 5 children, 2 men and a woman are missing.

It is bordered by Kottayam and Idukki districts. The houses were located in Idukki district. The houses were washed away by the floods to the Pullanayar below. Rescue operations were launched under the leadership of the Fire Force. The NDRF team has rushed to the spot.

According to locals, 17 people have been rescued from the area. The landslide occurred near the residence of more than 100 families. There was no heavy rain but there were indications of landslides in three places.

Kokkayar shares borders with Idukki and Kottayam districts. The landslide occurred in Urumbikkara East Colony and Poovanchi ward. Exact information on how many people were injured has not been released.

The area is completely isolated as the roads are completely destroyed. It is learned that rain, darkness and power outages are hampering rescue operations.

Six deaths were reported in Kottayam and Idukki districts due to heavy rains in the state.
