Europe Security Concerns, Iran’s Message to US, Gaza Aid Barriers
Updated June 26, 2025
Europe faces mounting security challenges as tensions rise in the Middle East. Iranian Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali khamenei addressed the recent conflict between Tehran and Israel, delivering a message to the United States and Israel. meanwhile, aid deliveries into Gaza are suspended, and a South African court has temporarily blocked the burial of Zambia’s former president.
In his first public statement since the end of the 12-day conflict between Iran and israel, Khamenei downplayed recent U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Speaking on Iranian state television, he claimed victory and cautioned against further U.S. and Israeli attacks.
Defense and security remain a priority in Europe. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the United Kingdom’s plan to purchase 12 U.S.-made F-35A fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear weapons. London called the move “the biggest strengthening of the U.K.’s nuclear posture in a generation.” Only the United Kingdom, the United States, and France are nuclear powers within NATO.
Israel has suspended aid deliveries into Gaza for two days, citing efforts to prevent Hamas from seizing supplies, Israeli officials told Reuters. A U.N. source confirmed the halt of deliveries into northern gaza. However, Israeli government spokesperson David Mencer maintains that aid is entering the territory from the south.
Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett posted a video on X, claiming it showed Hamas members stealing food from aid trucks. Local officials countered that the men were guarding the supplies. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have ordered the military to develop a plan to prevent Hamas from taking civilian aid.
Much of Gaza’s population remains at risk of hunger. Despite this, former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites helped spur cease-fire negotiations for the war in Gaza. “I think great progress is being made on Gaza … as of this attack that we made,” Trump told reporters. “I think we’re going to have some very good news.”
A South African court temporarily blocked the private burial of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu in South Africa, ruling that the late leader cannot be buried until the case over his final resting place concludes. The ruling came on the day Lungu’s relatives planned to hold his funeral.
The Zambian government wants Lungu to have a state funeral, presided over by current Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema. Zambian attorney General Mulilo Kabesha said such a practice would “ensure that all Zambian citizens can pay their respects in a dignified and appropriate way,” adding that state interests take priority. Lungu’s family has refused this demand due to a political feud with Hichilema. Lungu died on June 5 at age 68.
In Armenia, Father Zareh Ashuryan, a spokesperson for the Armenian Church, accused Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of being circumcised and implying he was not a Christian. Pashinyan responded by offering to show church officials his penis to prove his devoutness and reiterated his accusation that the head of the Armenian Church had broken his celibacy.
