Kick-Off 2024: China Unveils 535 New Undergraduate Majors, with Football Leading the Charge
China to Introduce 535 New Majors in 2024, Including AI-Related Fields

The Ministry of Education has released the “Public Notice of Application Materials for Undergraduate Majors of Ordinary Higher Education Institutions in 2024”. According to the public notice, 535 new majors are planned to be added in 2024, involving 353 universities and colleges.
In terms of the types of majors applied for, a total of 176 majors were applied for in 2024. Among them, the top five majors in terms of the number of applications are:
- Football (39)
- Cyberspace security (37)
- Sports training (34)
- Health and medical insurance (17)
- Geriatric medicine and health (14)
39 colleges and universities offer football majors.
Notably, there are two AI-related majors, namely the “Artificial Intelligence Education” major that Beijing Normal University plans to add, which belongs to the education degree type, and the “Dance and Artificial Intelligence” major that Hunan University of Technology and Business plans to add, which belongs to the art degree type.
