Researchers identified several genes that increase an individual’s susceptibility to kidney cancer. These include CHEK2, MUTYH, BRCA2, ATM, and APC.However, the study emphasizes that these genetic factors are not the sole drivers of the projected increase in cases.

The research categorizes risk factors as either nonmodifiable or modifiable. Nonmodifiable factors include sex, geographic location, ethnicity/ancestry, and family history. Modifiable risk factors, which present opportunities for prevention, encompass obesity, insulin resistance/diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, smoking, environmental exposure, and a lack of physical exercise.
