Chairman Kim Hyun-cheol of the President Kim Young-sam Memorial Foundation commented on the passing of his mother, the late Son Myeong-sun, wife of former President Kim Young-sam, saying, “She passed away very peacefully.”
Chairman Kim said on his Facebook page this afternoon, “My mother passed away at 5:39 pm today,” adding, “She passed away very peacefully with my family watching over her.”
He said, “A family funeral (5-day funeral) will be held hosted by the President Kim Young-sam Memorial Foundation, and the funeral will be held at the Seoul National University Hospital Funeral Home.”
Earlier, Ms. Son passed away at the age of 95 during hospitalization in the intensive care unit of Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Her cause of death was suk-hwan, and while she was receiving treatment at Seoul National University Hospital, her condition worsened rapidly and she eventually passed away.
Mrs. Son, who was born in Jinyeong-eup, Gimhae-gun (now Gimhae-si), Gyeongsangnam-do on January 16, 1929, graduated from Ewha Womans University College of Pharmacy and married former President Kim in 1951. With former President Kim, she has a son, Kim Hyun-cheol, and the chairman of the President Kim Young-sam Memorial Foundation.
