Kim Jong-un Breaks Silence: A Cryptic Response to Xi Jinping’s Overture, But Where’s the Cooperation

Kim Jong-un’s Reply to Xi Jinping: An Awkward Omission

North⁣ Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un sent a reply to Chinese President ⁤Xi Jinping, congratulating the establishment of the North Korean regime on September 9 this year. However, unlike last year, the reply lacked phrases emphasizing “cooperation” or “collaboration” between North Korea and China.

Rodong Sinmun, North‍ Korea’s state media, announced that Chairman Kim sent a reply to‌ President Xi on September‌ 15. The reply stated, “The common desire of the people of both countries is⁣ to continuously develop the friendship between North Korea and China, which ‌has a long historical tradition,” and “I believe that excellent results will continue to be achieved in accomplishing the feat together.”

Notably, the reply did not ⁣mention the “North Korea-China Friendship Year,” which was announced earlier this year to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two ⁣countries. This omission has led to speculation about the current state of relations between North Korea and⁤ China.

In the world of diplomacy, Chairman Kim’s reply has been interpreted ‌as a sign of North Korea’s discomfort‌ with China. This unease may be attributed to China’s attempts to tame North Korea, particularly ⁣after the summit between North Korea and Russia in June.

According to diplomatic sources, the exchange of⁢ congratulatory messages and letters between Chairman Kim and President Xi has decreased significantly in recent months. This decline in communication has led to concerns about the widening gap between North Korea and China.
