Kim Jong Un & China Trade Diplomacy: Beijing Appearance
kim Jong Un Joins Xi and Putin at Beijing Military Parade,Marking a Diplomatic Milestone
A Show of Unity in Beijing
Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stood side-by-side at a military parade in Beijing featuring China’s advanced weaponry. This joint appearance, commemorating the end of World war II, marks the first time the leaders of these three nations have been seen together in public.
The event underscores growing concerns about increasing collaboration among what some analysts call the “axis of upheaval”-China,Russia,Iran,and North Korea-and their collective opposition to the U.S.-led world order.
Kim Jong Un’s Diplomatic debut
This visit represents Kim Jong Un’s first foray into multilateral diplomacy as assuming power in 2011. Kim, known for avoiding overseas travel due to security concerns, arrived in Beijing on his armored train, ”The Sun.”
His reception was notable, exceeding even the welcome given to his grandfather, Kim Il Sung, the last North Korean leader to attend the Victory Day parade in 1959.
A Political Victory for North Korea
”The trip was an undeniable political victory for Kim Jong un,” said Park Won-gon, a professor of North Korea studies at Seoul’s Ewha Womans University. “To be seen standing shoulder to shoulder with two superpowers in China is an incredibly powerful image of propaganda to show to North Korean residents.”
Deepening Ties and Military Cooperation
Kim’s recent diplomatic efforts include a defense pact with Russia and the reported deployment of North Korean soldiers to the war in Ukraine. These actions are allegedly in exchange for technological and military assistance from Russia.
