Kim Ki-nam, Former North Korean Propaganda Secretary, Remembered by Chairman Kim Jong-un in State Funeral

Former Workers’ Party propaganda secretary Kim Ki-nam, nicknamed “North Korea’s Goebbels” and leader of the hereditary idolatry of the three generations of Kim Il-sung, Kim Jong-il and Kim Jong-un, has died .

On the 8th, the Korean Central News Agency said: “Comrade Kim Ki-nam, who had been treated in a hospital bed due to old age and multi-organ dysfunction since April 2022, could not be revived and unfortunately passed away at 5.00 pm. the age of 94 years at 10 am on 7 May 2024”.

He continued, “Comrade Kim Ki-nam has devoted everything to the sacred struggle to maintain and strengthen the ideological purity of our revolution and to politically ensure the continued victory of the socialist cause.”

It was decided that the funeral would be a state funeral, with President Kim Jong-un serving as chairman of the National Funeral Committee. Chairman Kim visited the funeral of the deceased at 2 am on this day to express condolences to him and comfort the grieving family.

Kim Ki-nam started as deputy director of the party’s propaganda and agitation department in the 1960s, and later served as director of the propaganda department and secretary in charge of propaganda. He took the initiative to ensure the legitimacy and idolatry of the hereditary succession of the third generation of the Kim family.

It was later reported that he had been dropped from the president’s list in the second plenary session of the 7th Labor Party held in October 2017 and had resigned as the party’s vice-president and head of the propaganda department.

On August 18, 2009, when former President Kim Dae-jung died, Kim Ki-nam visited South Korea as the leader of the special envoy’s condolence visit to North Korea and expressed his condolences. When he visited Seoul to attend the August 15th National Festival in 2005, he visited the National Cemetery and visited former President Kim Dae-jung, who was hospitalized at the time with symptoms of pneumonia.
