Bayern Munich Successfully Signs Kim Min-jae, Record-breaking Transfer Fee for Asian Player

June 30, 2023 – In a significant development, German football giant Bayern Munich has managed to secure the services of Kim Min-jae (26, Napoli), beating out competition from Manchester United. This move has not gone unnoticed, drawing attention from Soccer Digest Japan, who commented on the historic nature of the transfer.

Soccer Digest Japan reported on the 29th that Kim Min-jae, a member of the Korean national team, will join Munich with the highest transfer fee ever recorded for an Asian player, surpassing Nakajima Shoya (28, Antalyaspor). The respected publication highlighted the magnitude of this achievement.

German media outlet Sky Sports revealed that reporter Florian Plettenberg confirmed the transfer on his social media account. Plettenberg had engaged in several discussions with Munich on behalf of Kim Min-jae, ultimately helping to facilitate the deal. Currently, Kim Min-jae is fulfilling his military service obligation in South Korea and will undergo a medical examination before the transfer is finalized. The agreed fee stands at a remarkable 60 million euros (approximately 86 billion won), a sum that Munich seems prepared to pay without hesitation.

If the deal is successfully concluded, Kim Min-jae will shatter the previous record for the highest transfer fee paid for an Asian player. The current record stands at 35 million euros (50.2 billion won) for Nakajima, who made the move from Portimonense to Al Duhail in 2017. This historic transfer surpasses even the significant fees paid for the likes of Son Heung-min’s transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Tottenham Hotspur in 2015, which amounted to 30 million euros (43 billion won).

It’s worth noting that Japan, who previously celebrated Nakajima’s historic transfer fee, must now relinquish that title. Nakajima’s subsequent club stints at Al Duhail, FC Porto, Al Ain, and Portimonense did not yield the desired results, with his performance not justifying the large fee paid for his services. Last year, he found a new opportunity in Antalya, Turkey, but failed to find the back of the net even once in the league. With Kim Min-jae’s move, Nakajima loses the distinction of commanding the highest transfer fee in Asia.

[스포탈코리아] Reporter Lee Hyeon-min = Japan gave a meaningless position when shedding light on Kim Min-jae (26, Napoli), who is about to enter Bayern Munich, the German giant.

Munich beat Manchester United to embrace Kim Min-jae. Soccer Digest Japan paid attention on the 29th, saying, “Korean national team member Kim Min-jae surpasses Nakajima Shoya (28, Antalyaspor) to Munich with the highest transfer fee for an Asian player. ”

According to the media, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg was quoted in Germany announcing that he had reported on his SNS account that ‘Kim Min-jae is moving to Munich’.

Plettenberg offered a solution after several discussions with Munich by Kim Min-jae. Currently, Kim Min-jae is fulfilling his military service obligation (basic military training) in South Korea. After this, you will have a medical test. A purchase of 60 million euros (about 86 billion won) has been set with Napoli. It looks like Munich will pay full price.

If a deal of this amount is concluded, Kim Min-jae will break the record for the highest transfer fee for an Asian player. The highest amount so far is 35 million euros (50.2 billion won) for Nakajima, who transferred from Portimonense (Portugal) to Al Duhail (Qatar) in 2017. The latter was accompanied by Son Heung-min , who left Bayer Leverkusen (Germany) for Tottenham in 2015, for 30 million euros (43 billion won).

Meanwhile, Japan have been proud of Nakajima’s highest transfer fee in Asia. However, Nakajima went downhill through Al Duhail, FC Porto, Al Ain (UAE) and again Portimonense. He did not perform well enough for the transfer fee. In September last year, he made a new nest in Antalya (Turkiye) as a free agent, but he scored only 0 goals in the league. Now, Kim Min-jae has lost the title of the highest transfer fee.
