[인터풋볼] Reporter Ha Geun-soo = Kim Min-jae’s price, which had been rising steadily since entering Europe, has long since stopped.

On the 14th (Korea time), ‘Transfermarkt’, a football statistics media, updated the value of players playing in the German Bundesliga.

The place where attention was focused was, of course, on the mega club Bayern Munich. However, most of the evaluations fell. Prices for Matthijs de Ligt, Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Thomas Müller, Daniel Peretz, and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting have been reduced. The only players who got up are Leroy Sane, Nusair Mazraoui and Aleksandar Pavlovic.

Minjae Kim was valued at 60 million euros (about 85.3 billion won) as last time. Of course, this price is also a huge figure. Kim Min-jae’s record of 60 million euros ranks 1st in Korea, 5th among those born in 1996, 8th among center backs, 8th in Munich, 10th in the German Bundesliga, and 64th in the world

So who is the center back above Kim Min-jae? Joszko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias are tied for first place with 80 million euros (about 113.8 billion won). William Saliba, Ronald Araujo and Eder Militao are third with 70 million euros (about 99.5 billion won). Following the 65 million euros (about 92.4 billion won) recorded by De Ligt and Marquinhos, Minjae Kim, Jules Kounde, Christian Romero, Dayot Upamecano, and Alessandro Bastoni are tied for 8th place.

Last season, Minjae Kim became the Italian Serie A champion with Napoli. The next club chosen by the center back monster was Munich. As he joined a mega club, competing for the starting position was an inevitable fate. But all worries were unfounded. While Dayot Upamecano and De Ligt are alternately suffering from injuries, only Kim Min-jae is consistently performing well.

After joining Munich, he even received a double blessing. Firstly, he was ranked 22nd out of 30 candidates for the Ballon d’Or, which is considered the highest honor in football, the highest among centre-back candidates. Kim Min-jae became the fourth Korean Leaguer to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or. Following Seol Ki-hyun (2002, Anderlecht), Park Ji-sung (2005, Manchester United), and Son Heung-min (2019, 2022, Tottenham Hootspur). It is a feat achieved just two years after challenging the European stage by joining Fenerbahçe in 2021. It was also very meaningful as he became the first Asian defender to do so. Kim Min-jae, ranked 22nd, is a centre-back, beating Yosuko Gvardiol (25th), who took third place with Croatia at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, and Ruben Dias (30th), who achieved the first treble in history with Manchester City last season, he showed his spirit by taking first place among the candidates.

In addition, he even won the ‘Asian Football Confederation (AFC) International Player Award’. AFC said, “Kim Min-jae showed an outstanding performance in leading Napoli, who last won the title in the 1989-90 season, to the Italian Serie A title. Kim Min-jae is the second Korean player to receive the award, following Son Heung-min, who won the award in 2015, 2017, and 2019. Kim Min-jae’s stock price has soared since his transfer from Beijing Guoan, China, to Turkye Fenerbahce in 2021. Less than a year later , he moved to Napoli. Napoli advanced to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) for the first time in history. Kim Min-jae’s presence was huge. While Napoli won the Scudetto (Italian Serie A championship), Kim recorded Min-jae 16 clean sheets (no goals conceded), 2 goals, and 2 assists in 33 games. Kim Min-jae helped Korea win 10 times. He gave high praise to Kim Min-jae, who has risen beyond Asia to become a world-class player, saying, “He plays a big role in advancing to the finals of consecutive FIFA World Cups.”

If Munich hadn’t recruited Kim Min-jae last summer, the defense would have collapsed long ago. As such, Kim Min-jae quickly established himself as an indispensable core resource in Munich. The goals are, of course, ‘Meisterschale (German Bundesliga championship shield)’ and ‘Big Ear’ (UCL championship trophy). Munich will invite Stuttgart to their home early in the morning on the 18th and aim for victory.
