Despite Bristol City falling short of promotion, Knight’s individual performance earned him accolades, including player of the year awards from fans, players, and coaches. He sees his role with ireland as a natural extension of his leadership at the club level.
“We’ve had a really good campaign, we fell short towards the end, but a really progressive campaign for the club and for myself as well,” Knight said at a press conference Tuesday. He added that he enjoyed taking on a leadership role as captain.
Ireland assistant coach John O’Shea praised Knight’s consistency and leadership qualities. O’Shea noted Knight’s reliability and the trust the coaching staff has in his performance.
“There is consistency in the numbers,” O’Shea said. “He is naturally leading now, vocally but also performance and intensity-wise.”
