Koothuparambu: The National Senior Women’s Football Championship got off to a flying start at the Koothuparambu Municipal Stadium, defeating defending champions Manipur 4-0 in the first match. Manipur, who dominated throughout the tournament, outscored their opponents. Assam Roja Devi scored the first goal for Manipur in the 47th minute. Moyrankitam Mandakini Devi scored in the 48th minute, Yankom Kiranbala Chanu in the 54th minute and Thinkbaijam and Baby Sana Devi in the 81st minute. In the second match played in the afternoon, the strong Daman-Diu defeated Pondicherry by two goals to one. No. 15 Diksha Bansod scored the first goal for Daman-Diu in the 17th minute. In the 48th minute of the second half, Pondicherry conceded an own goal to give Daman and Diu an official victory. The first round match of Group A was played yesterday. Himachal Pradesh will take on Bihar in a Group C match at 9.30 am today and Assam will take on Rajasthan at 2.30 pm.
