Korea Reveals Starting Line-Up for AFC U-23 Championship Match Against Indonesia in Quest for Paris Olympics

The Republic of Korea U-23 national team, led by coach Hwang Seon-hong (55), will take part in the 2024 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian U-23 which will be held at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha, Qatar, at 2 :30 pm on the 26th (Korea time).

The starting line-up was revealed before the game. Baek Jong-beom (FC Seoul) puts on the goalkeeper’s gloves. Cho Hyun-taek (Gimcheon Sangmu), Hwang Jae-won (Daegu FC), Byun Jun-su (Gwangju FC), Hong Si-hoo (Incheon United), and Lee Kang-hee (Gyeongnam FC) were in the top 11 . Baek Hoon (Seoul), Um Ji-seong (Gwangju), Kang Seong-jin, Lee Tae-seok (Seoul), and Kim Dong-jin (Pohang Steelers) will also participate.

Coach Shin Tae-yong (53) led Indonesia to the quarter-finals. They caused a stir by progressing to second place in Group A, known as the Group of Death. Indonesia lost 1-2 to the host nation, Qatar, but recorded 2 wins and 1 loss by beating Australia and Jordan in turn.

Korea won all three matches in Group B. After beating the United Arab Emirates (UAE), they defeated China 2-0 thanks to Lee Young-jun’s multiple goals. In the match against Japan, they won 1-0 thanks to Kim Min-woo’s header and the winning goal (Dusseldorf).

Lee Young-jun (Gimcheon Sangmu), the main star of the tournament and top scorer (3 goals), will start the match on the bench against Indonesia. Lee Tae-seok, who has the most assists overall with 3 assists, will start.

This competition is a qualifier for the Paris Olympic Games 2024. The top three will progress directly to the Olympic Games in Paris. Korea is aiming to become the first country in the world to advance to the Olympic Games for the 10th time in a row.
