Korea vs Saudi Arabia: Clash of Star Coaches in Asian Cup Round of 16

Korea under star coach Jürgen Klinsmann and Saudi Arabia under star coach Roberto Mancini will compete to advance to the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup.
Korea will play the round of 16 of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Qatar Asian Cup 2023 against Saudi Arabia at 1 am on the 31st at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar. Italian coach Mancini is known to receive the highest salary (about 43.5 billion won) among football coaches in the world. German coach Klinsmann receives an annual salary of 2.8 billion won.

The two head coaches, who played active roles as strikers, were the same age in 1964 and even stood together on the Italian Serie A stage. The two coaches, Saudi Arabia and Korea, faced each other in an evaluation match held in England last September, and Korea won 1-0. But things are very different now. Saudi Arabia played tough defense, conceding just one goal via penalty kicks in three group stage games. On the other hand, Klinsmann conceded 6 goals in the group stage. Therefore, it can be said that the match against Saudi Arabia is the real ‘first hurdle’ in the challenge of winning the title for the first time in 64 years. However, the return of injured striker Hwang Hee-chan and left-back Kim Jin-su is a positive factor. If the side comes back to life, there could be a good trend all over the world.
Korea has a tight record against Saudi Arabia with 5 wins, 8 draws, and 5 losses. In the FIFA rankings, Korea (23rd) is ahead of Saudi Arabia (56th).
