Korean-American Chan Kim wins Dunlop Phoenix on the Japan Professional Golf Tour

Korean player Kim Chan (31, USA) won the Japan Professional Golf Tour (JGTO) Dunlop Phoenix Tournament (total prize money: 150 million yen).

On the 21st, in the fourth round of the tournament held at the Phoenix Country Club (par 71, 7,42 yards) in Miyazaki City, Japan, on the 21st, Kim Chan recorded an 8-under 63 with nine birdies and one birdie.

With a final total of 17-under 267, Chan Kim surpassed the tie-breakers by one stroke to climb to the top. The prize money for winning this competition is 30 million yen (about 310 million won).

Chan Kim won the JGTO’s 7th win in a month and a half since the Tokai Classic in early October.

Chan Kim gave up the first place by one stroke to Naoyuki Kataoka (Japan), who had a birdie on the 16th hole (par 4), but succeeded in coming back by taking consecutive birdies on the 17th and 18th holes.

Kataoka and Ryosuke Kinoshita (Japan) both tied for second with a 16-under 268 shot.

In the JGTO, which runs the 2020-2021 season due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), Kim Chan recorded a season prize of 112.09 million yen, taking the first place in the prize money category.

With two remaining JGTO tournaments this season, if Chan Kim ascends to the prize money king, he will become the foreign prize money king for the first time in six years since Kim Kyung-tae (35) in 2015.

At JGTO, foreign prize money was awarded four times: David Ishii (USA) in 1987, Kim Kyung-tae in 2010 and 2015, and Bae Sang-moon (35) in 2011.
