The Korean speed skating team’s participation in the World Championships was canceled as the sky was blocked in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

An official from the Korea Skating Federation said on the 28th, “The current situation is unclear and we have notified the organizer of his absence.”

The speed skating team planned to participate in the International Skating Union (ISU) World Championships in Speed Skating for the 2021-22 season to be held in Hamar, Norway using a Dutch flight on the 27th.

However, the flight was canceled due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In the afternoon of the 28th, the flight was re-booked, but even this was canceled, making it impossible to participate in the competition.

Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, participation in the ISU World Cup Finals to be held in Heirenbein, Netherlands on March 12 and 13 is currently uncertain. An official from the Ice Skating Federation said, “I think we will have to monitor the situation for the time being.”

Meanwhile, the short track junior national team, which was scheduled to participate in the Junior World Championships to be held in Poland from March 4 to 6, is also stuck.

The short track junior national team is scheduled to depart on March 1. If the flight does not operate normally, there is a possibility of considering not attending.
