The SI stated in the complaint that he did not speak ill of the foreigner or ask him to abstain from alcohol. He has stated that he is the officer who completed the investigation to get the death penalty for the accused in the double murder case.

A complaint has also been lodged with the DGP. According to Shaji’s complaint, the people who had booked the room in Kovalam had smuggled the liquor along with the bill. Meanwhile, a departmental inquiry has been directed against three policemen, including the SI, in the complaint. The Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner has directed a departmental inquiry.

The department is investigating SI Aneesh, Manesh and Sajith. Stephen Asberg, who bought alcohol from the Beverages Corporation, was stopped by police for demanding a bill. The incident took place when Stephen Asberg, a Swedish citizen running a homestay in Vellar near Kovalam, was on his way to buy liquor from a beverage shop on New Year’s Eve.

The Police Officers’ Association had come out against the suspension of Grade SI. The association said the SI had only complied with the order not to go to the beach with alcohol and had not asked the police to drain the liquor.

However, Stephen rejected the police’s arguments. He made it clear that he had not gone to the beach but to a friend’s hotel. Kovalam is an isolated incident. However, Tourism Minister Mohammad Riyaz said such incidents should not be repeated.
