Doha ഖത്ത The Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has revealed that the Kovid pandemic has revealed the gap between rich and poor countries. It revealed the depth of the gap between the countries and widened its gap. Amir pointed out that this is especially at a time when efforts are being made to achieve development and reduce poverty.
He called on the international community to adopt an approach that translates words and willingness into action so as to achieve equality in economic recovery between nations and to support sustainable development goals to support those suffering from poverty and war.
The emir was speaking at the inauguration of the Qatar Economic Forum hosted by Bloomberg at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. He said Qatar’s GDP is expected to grow by 4.9 percent this year. The reason for the GDP growth is due to the increase in energy prices and the positive impact of the policies and measures adopted by the country to support the economy.
Legal amendments in the field of economic diversification have led to a significant increase in domestic and foreign investment in recent years. Foreign direct investment (FDI) is expected to grow by 27% in 2021 compared to 2020. Aamir said he expects further growth in the coming years.
The Emir’s address to various issues, including the Kovid, Ukraine riots, the economy, poverty and food insecurity, ended with a welcome address to the FIFA World Cup.
The inaugural session was attended by Prime Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Sheikhs, rulers of various countries, ambassadors, senior diplomats, members of parliament, economists, businessmen and members of the media. The forum is based on the theme of Equalizing Global Recovery.
The World Cup will improve economic participation
Amir said he was confident that the FIFA World Cup, to be hosted by Doha, Qatar, would feature a large number of global players. Qatar and the entire region are moving towards hosting the FIFA World Cup, which will be the first of its kind in the region.
Amir said the good governance of the countries would not only open up opportunities for strengthening international economic participation but would also be a driving force to strengthen the bridge of communication and dialogue between different types of people.
The Emir ended his speech by welcoming people from all over the world to Doha to watch the World Cup.
