KT professional baseball brings back Cuevas, the protagonist of the first integrated championship since its inception

KT professional baseball re-recruited the right-handed pitcher William Cuevas (33, Venezuela), who was one of the main players in the first integrated championship in 2021 (first in the regular league and won the Korean Series).

On the 9th, the KT team officially announced that they recruited Cuevas for a total of $450,000 (about 582 million won) to replace foreign pitcher Bo Schulser (29, USA).

Cuevas has a deep relationship with KT. Lee Kang-cheol came to Korea in 2019, the first year of his appointment as KT coach, and earned 13 wins (10 losses, 3.62 ERA) in his first year of appearance, and 10 wins (8 losses, 4.10 ERA) the following year , smooth contract renewal, and 33 wins in 82 games in 4 seasons. He posted a record 23 shutouts and a 3.89 ERA.

In particular, in 2021, he took the mound as a starter in the draw, the regular 1st place league game against Samsung, held with the same odds rate in the regular league, and pitched 7 scoreless innings, leading the team to become No. 1 in the regular league. Later that year, he also appeared as a starter in the first game of the Korean Series and set the stage for the team’s undefeated 4-game winning streak with 7 2/3 innings and 1 RBI.

However, at the start of the 2022 season, he broke up with KT after falling off the starting lineup due to elbow pain. He recorded an ERA of 6.14.

KT general manager Na-Hyun Na said, “Cuevas is an ace who contributed to the combined championship in 2021. He has a lot of league experience, and there is no problem with his physical condition.”

At the start of the season, a large number of key players went down due to injuries, and KT, who suffered from the stigma of ‘injury ward’ and fell to the bottom, are currently enjoying a 5 game winning streak. In no time, he rose to 8th in the league (21 wins, 2 draws, 30 losses, 0.412 win rate).

Cuevas will enter Korea on the 12th and join the squad.
