Kusturica Takes a Stand: Famed Director Files Shocking Criminal Complaint Against Željko Mitrović
Emir Kusturica Files Criminal Complaint Against Unknown Individuals
Renowned film director Emir Kusturica has submitted a criminal complaint to the Senior Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade against unknown individuals from the Kopajemo movement. The complaint alleges that these individuals have threatened Kusturica’s safety.
Kusturica’s lawyer, Zdenko Tomanović, revealed that the complaint was filed in response to a picture published on the social network X, which depicted a tombstone with Kusturica’s photo and the year of birth and death. The image was accompanied by comments that read, “In a normal country, Kusturica would not exist” and “may the black country be easy for him.”
Tomanović noted that the prosecutor’s office has yet to provide information about the activities related to the complaint.
In addition to the complaint against the Kopajemo movement, Kusturica’s team has also submitted a request to the prosecutor’s office to take action against Pink and Željko Mitrović for creating and publishing an offensive audio and video recording using artificial intelligence.
The controversy surrounding Kusturica began after he publicly opposed lithium mining in Serbia. In response to his opposition, Željko Mitrović, the owner of TV Pink, created a video using artificial intelligence that featured Kusturica’s image and voice. The video falsely portrayed Kusturica as making statements about his father’s past and his alleged involvement with Udba.
Kusturica’s team has also filed a complaint with the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) against Pink and Željko Mitrović for abusing artificial intelligence. A request for a temporary measure has been submitted to the court, but no response has been received yet.
A private criminal complaint has also been filed against Željko Mitrović, but it is still too early to expect a response from the court.
