Red Sox Pitcher Kutter Crawford Out for Season After Accident

Boston Red Sox will be without pitcher Kutter Crawford for the remainder of the season. Manager Alex Cora announced Wednesday that Crawford suffered a season-ending wrist injury in an off-field accident. Cora clarified the 29-year-old Crawford was not acting “irresponsibly” when the accident occurred.
Crawford had already been dealing with a right knee injury sustained early in the 2024 season. That year, he pitched in 33 games, achieving a 9-16 record with a 4.36 ERA. Despite discomfort from patellar tendonitis,Crawford led the Red Sox with 183 ⅔ innings pitched and 175 strikeouts,while also giving up a league-high 34 home runs.
Cora lamented the impact on the team’s pitching depth. “It sucks because we were talking about how deep we were in spring training… And now it’s getting thinner and thinner,” Cora said after the Red Sox lost to the Los angeles Angels 5-2.
In related news, Alex Bregman’s return to the lineup is also delayed. The third baseman has been sidelined with a quadriceps injury as May 23. Cora indicated that Bregman is unlikely to return until after the All-Star break. Before the injury, Bregman was batting .299 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs in 51 games.
Bregman’s agent, Scott Boras, told The Boston Globe that his client is open to a new contract with the Red sox. Bregman has the option to become a free agent at the end of the season.
