Kyle Sandilands attempted to reconcile with co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson by calling her on live radio to discuss his 18kg weight loss, just two hours after a severe on-air dispute, according to Federal Court documents filed on behalf of Henderson.
An On-Air Olive Branch Over Weight Loss
The bizarre outreach emerged within a statement of claim lodged in Henderson’s civil lawsuit against KIIS 106.5 owner ARN Media. The legal action follows the broadcaster’s termination of their combined $200million deal.
The Radio Partnership Collapses
ARN Media axed the radio partnership after a February 20 segment on The Kyle and Jackie O Show where Sandilands criticized Henderson’s interest in astrology. Sandilands has initiated a separate legal action against ARN on different grounds.
According to the court documents, Henderson claimed she experienced two major arguments with Sandilands prior to their final on-air clash in February. The first altercation took place on August 20, when Sandilands made critical remarks regarding astrology, labeling it psycho babble and weird psychological nonsense.
Compatibility Clashes and Walkouts
During the August 20 broadcast, Sandilands stated that he worried Henderson would never find love due to her strict compatibility requirements. Henderson accused him of launching a personal attack.
Sandilands defended his comments by telling her that talking differs from attacking and urged her to stop using hype words. Henderson briefly left the show, later describing the exchange in court filings as offensive and degrading.
Censored Fights and Management Texts
A second argument occurred on September 10, though Henderson claimed that exchange was censored and never broadcast. Following that incident, Henderson messaged KIIS radio head Derek Bargwanna to state she refused to be spoken to in that manner off air.
Approximately two hours later, at 8:10 am, Bargwanna texted Henderson to inform her that Sandilands planned to call her on air to share his weight loss news and attempt to repair their friendship.
Legal Battles Over Contract Termination
The core of Henderson’s civil case centers on allegations that ARN executives ignored multiple complaints regarding Sandilands and failed to provide a safe workspace. Henderson also claimed the broadcaster breached the Fair Work Act by using her February 20 complaint as grounds to cancel her $100million contract.
In her initial February 26 complaint, Henderson stated she could not continue working with Sandilands but remained willing to fulfill her contract on a different show. Five days later, a subsidiary of ARN Media responded by treating her complaint as a resignation notice. ARN subsequently issued an ASX announcement telling shareholders that Henderson had given notice that she could not continue working with Sandilands, a characterization Henderson disputes.
