Trump Orders Federal Action to Address Migrant Situation in Los Angeles
Updated June 8, 2025
President Donald Trump has directed his administration to take immediate action to address the migrant situation in Los Angeles. In a post on Truth Social Sunday, Trump specifically instructed Secretary of homeland security Kristi Noem, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi to take all necessary steps to “liberate Los Angeles from the migrant invasion.”
Trump claimed that “violent insurrectionist mobs” are attacking federal agents in an attempt to halt his administration’s deportation efforts. He asserted that order would be restored, undocumented immigrants would be expelled, and Los Angeles would be “set free.” The National Guard arrived in Los Angeles overnight.

On Saturday, Trump signed a memorandum authorizing the deployment of the National Guard as protests in Los Angeles entered their third day. The memorandum allows for up to 2,000 service members to be deployed for 60 days, or as steadfast by the defense secretary.
Both Trump and the secretary of defense have not ruled out the possibility of sending marines to California.
What’s next
The situation in Los Angeles remains fluid as federal and state authorities coordinate their response to the ongoing protests and the migrant situation. Further deployments and policy changes could be announced in the coming days as the administration seeks to restore order and address the migrant invasion.
