This transition to the Cayman Islands provided Alan with keen experience in managing international offices, offering distinctive insights into the global market’s financial ecosystem.

The decision to return to Dublin in 2007, prompted by familial responsibilities, opened new horizons for Alan. He rejoined BNY to establish and lead the private equity fund services business. Regular corporate travels to New York led to a decision to relocate to New Jersey in 2016, influenced by the financial benefits associated with the financial hub and the necessity for enhanced support services for his youngest child, who received an autism diagnosis.

Today, Flanagan’s family resides in Princeton, a town celebrated for its Premier Ivy League university while remaining down-to-earth and internationally diverse. The town is a hub of great restaurants and facilities, appealing to families and providing robust educational opportunities.

Life in the United States has offered Flanagan a refreshed perspective on daily life’s comforts. “Space is in abundance here. You notice it around housing and car park spaces. Last time I tried to park a car in Dublin, I couldn’t get over it. There’s more space here, even in the shopping aisles.” Flanagan reflects that the sense of wide-open space in the U.S. makes for a relaxed urban living experience.

Beginning his workday with an 80-minute commute to BNY’s offices in Manhattan is commonplace for Flanagan, who navigates the daily grind at one of the oldest financial institutions in the country, established in 1784.

As Flanagan leads the relationship management endeavor, he underscores the above-board, trust-earned respect among clients, harnessed through committed teamwork, which bolsters their afforded competitive advantage.
