Classic Lasagna Recipe
Serves: 8 people
Cooking Time: 120 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons Anchor butter
- 1 finely chopped onion
- 1 stalk celery, finely chopped
- 1 carrot, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 700g minced beef
- Salt and pepper
- 2 cups tomato passata
- 1 cup beef broth
- Anchor Butter 50g
- 1/4 cup flour
- 3 cups fresh milk
- 2 cups grated mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 250g dried lasagna sheets
Cooking Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large saucepan over low heat and add the onion, celery, carrots, and garlic. Cook until the onions are soft. Add the ground meat, increase the heat to medium, and cook the meat, using a spoon to break up any lumps. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add the passata and beef stock and stir until well mixed. Simmer over low heat for 40 to 45 minutes or until mixture is reduced and thickened.
- Meanwhile, melt 50g butter in a medium saucepan and stir in flour until dough forms. Add milk and whisk to remove any lumps. Simmer over low heat until the mixture thickens. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in half of both cheeses.
- Lightly grease a deep 25cm square baking dish and line the bottom with lasagne sheets. Spoon half of the chopped mixture over the top and top with 1/3 of the white sauce. Repeat with another layer of lasagna sheets, mince, and white sauce.
- Top with the last lasagna sheet and white sauce. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese and bake in the oven for 45 minutes or until the lasagna sheets are cooked and the cheese is golden brown.
Serve with seasonal vegetables or a side salad.
