Nigeria Launches First LCNG Hub in Yola, Boosting Gas Usage
Nigeria has officially inaugurated its first liquefied to Compressed Natural Gas (LCNG) hub in Yola, Adamawa State. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, commissioned the Greenville LNG project, marking a meaningful step in the nationS “Decade of Gas” initiative to promote natural gas adoption.
Ekpo lauded the public-private partnership, emphasizing its role in unlocking Nigeria’s natural gas potential. He highlighted the strategic importance of locating the facility in the North-East,a region facing infrastructural and security challenges. The LCNG hub is expected to serve as a catalyst for economic growth in the area, demonstrating the benefits of Nigeria’s gas reserves reaching all parts of the country.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu views leveraging Nigeria’s gas resources as a national priority to transform the economy and improve living standards. The LCNG project exemplifies innovation in energy solutions, offering both LNG and CNG as alternative fuels for vehicles and industrial use.Natural gas is not only cleaner but also more cost-effective than diesel and petrol, making it ideal for commercial and domestic applications.

“This facility in Yola marks a significant turning point. it is a beacon of hope and possibility, not only for Adamawa State but for the entire region. It shows that the benefits of Nigeria’s gas reserves can and must reach every corner of the country,” Ekpo said.
Representing Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta expressed gratitude for the LCNG investment, aligning with the state’s commitment to cleaner, affordable energy. She affirmed Adamawa’s dedication to environmental protection and public health,pledging support for related policies and projects.
Greenville LNG Chairman, Mr. Eddy Van den Broeke, stated the company’s commitment of over $1 billion to energy infrastructure projects across Nigeria. He announced plans for similar LCNG facilities in other states, appealing for continued government support to ensure the success and expansion of gas infrastructure projects.
