◀ Again ▶

The ruling party, which suffered a crushing defeat in the general elections, made demands for reform of state affairs to the Office of the President.

It was underlined that it is no longer a matter of choice that a complete overhaul of the government leads to resignation and the president meets with the leader of the opposition party.

The People Power Party, again facing a leadership vacuum for the first time in about four months, will hold a senior meeting next week to find a solution.

The People Power Party is facing a leadership vacuum following its crushing defeat in the general elections.

The atmosphere is chaotic, there isn’t even a ceremony to untie the former captain.

Calls for reform in Yongsan have been made public, especially by those who won tough victories in the general elections.

Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo, who succeeded in his fourth term, called for a complete change in government policy and reform to the level of the resignation of the entire cabinet.

″I think it’s right that everyone resigns voluntarily. In fact, I am completely reluctant to resign voluntarily.”

There was also no shortage of criticism of the presidential staff.

″To renew awareness it is necessary that the staff of the president’s office can speak directly. The Office of the President is not the hub of power, but a position that assists the President and conveys public sentiment.”

They argue that it is a message from the people who gave seats to the opposition party in the general elections, and that meeting the president and the opposition leader is no longer a choice but a necessity.

″Meeting with the leader of the opposition party is not just a question of “if you like it, it’s good or not”.

The need for a forward-looking attitude regarding the law on the Special Prosecutor on First Lady Kim Kun-hee was also discussed.

The ruling party is currently pondering how to resolve the leadership vacuum.

Leader Yoon Jae-ok, who has resumed his role as interim authority for the first time in about four months following the resignation of emergency committee chairman Han Dong-hoon, announced that he will hold a meeting next week with the senior officials who have served four or more terms.

″We did this to listen to senior legislators’ opinions on various solutions. So I referred to this and summarized various opinions…”

While opinions within the party are divided on whether to form an emergency response committee again or hold an early national convention, non-Yoonseok-yeol lawmakers who were elected in this general election are being mentioned as candidates for the next party leadership.
