Lee Jae-ah, daughter of former soccer player Lee Dong-guk and renowned tennis player, has announced her retirement from the sport. Taking to her social media account on the 8th, Lee Jae-ah expressed her heartfelt decision.

In her statement, Lee Jae-ah shared, “Today, I am breaking the news about parting ways with tennis, which has been my everything. For ten years, I have tirelessly pursued the dream of becoming the world’s best tennis player. However, last week, I underwent my third knee operation, which has led me to the difficult realization that I must let go of my lifelong dream.”

Reflecting on her journey, Lee Jae-ah disclosed, “Following my second operation last winter, the hospital director informed me that engaging in intensive training like tennis would be challenging going forward. Despite the hardships, I attempted to revive my dream. However, now I must accept that it will remain unattainable.” She candidly admitted the inevitable.

Nevertheless, Lee Jae-ah added, “Perhaps relinquishing a dream does not equate to failure, but rather embarking on a new challenge. In this process, I believe my past trials will serve as a foundation for personal growth.” Her words exude resilience and optimism.

She continued, “Though I found myself in a place where I had to abandon my dream, the courage I discovered within this surrender, as well as my acceptance of pain, will undoubtedly shape my future. I am determined to demonstrate my growth and dedication in whatever path I choose.”

Lee Jae-ah has been actively involved in tennis since the age of seven. In 2020, she made her mark as the youngest finalist in the Bokshin division of the Korean Championships. Her achievements also include winning two gold medals in both singles and doubles at the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) Yanggu 14-year-old international junior competition in 2021. Additionally, she climbed to the top of the Asian 14-year-old ranking.
