On the 3rd, People Power Party MP Lee Jong-bae declared his candidacy as leader of the group. Congressman Lee served three terms in Chungju, northern Chungcheong Province, and succeeded in his fourth term in this general election.
Representative Lee said on Facebook on this day: “This election for floor leader is the first step to take into consideration the strict will of the people and start over from the beginning. “I want to run for floor leader to set the standard. ” he said.
He said: “I served as the first chairman of the party’s political committee in the 21st National Assembly and is believed to have laid the foundation for victory in the 4/7 by-election, the 20th presidential election and the 8th local election.” he also said, “I also served as chairman of the Budget and Accounts Committee in the first half of the year and supported the Moon Jae-in administration. “We have experience in cutting the generous budget and ensuring additional budget to support ordinary people struggling due to Covid-19,” he said.
He continued: “Based on our experience so far, we will negotiate wisely and ultimately win against the big opposition party,” and added: “To ensure that this 22nd National Assembly becomes a National Assembly that protects people’s lives, we all of you come together to negotiate wisely with the big opposition party and only protect people’s lives.”
The date for the People Power Party leader election is the 9th. Rep. Lee’s declaration of candidacy is the second, after that of Rep. Song Seok-jun the day before. Representative Song succeeded in his third term in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.
