Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the strong destination of the French league 1 for the next destination of Lee Kang-in (22), is about to recruit a head coach who led the treble in the past (winning the league, the FA Cup, and the League Champions).

The Guardian, a British media outlet, reported on the 19th (Korea time) that “Enrique has emerged as a front-runner for PSG’s next manager candidate. He will return to the club for the first time since 2017.” According to the media, both sides intend to sign an agreement after agreeing on detailed terms within a few days.

Enrique, who was active as the captain of Barcelona (Spain) as a player, after retirement, went through AS Roma (Italy) and Celta Vigo (Spain) and took charge of Barcelona from 2014. In the midst of Lionel Messi’s performance, he caused a stir by achieved a treble in the 2014-15 season, his first year in the job. They won the league and Copa del Rey the following season, but failed to claim the league title in the 2016–17 season and withdrew.

Afterwards, Enrique took over as coach of the Spanish national team and held the helm until the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He finished third at Euro 2020 and lost to Morocco in the round of 16 at the World Cup in Qatar. Enrique eventually resigned from the national team coaching job after the World Cup.

PSG terminated the contract with coach Christophe Galtier after the end of the 2022-23 season. After that, he negotiated with Julian Nagelsmann, who retired from Bayern Munich (Germany) this year, but it didn’t work out. After twists and turns, PSG reached an agreement with Enrique and put a new person in the director’s seat.

Enrique’s appointment is expected to help Lee Kang-in, who is about to find a new team. Lee Kang-in is likely to move his team from Mallorca to PSG. Fabricio Romano, an expert in the European transfer market, said on social media, “Lee Kang-in and PSG have reached a verbal agreement on a long-term contract and have also completed a medical. We are currently coordinating the final details oy negotiations.” According to the French GFFN, PSG offered 22 million euros (about 30 billion won) for the transfer fee of Lee Kang-in.

Enrique is well versed in the Spanish league. For Lee Kang-in, who spent his professional career in La Liga, he is a leader who can work well tactically and in other areas. Therefore, it is expected that Enrique’s appointment as manager will be important for Lee Kang-in as well.
