Lee Sang-min, Minister of Public Administration and Security, cancels business trip to the U.S. and returns home…doing his best to recover from computer failure

This is due to a malfunction in the local administrative computer service of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security that occurred on the 17th.

Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min received a wire report today (17th) from Vice Minister Ko Ki-dong on the progress of local administrative computer service failure recovery and future measures. A countermeasures headquarters involving the Ministry of National Security and all related departments was formed and an all-out response was ordered.

In addition, it was ordered to thoroughly inspect all administrative network systems managed by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, including the government document distribution network and information disclosure portal, and to check for any abnormalities in the computer system jointly managed by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security and local governments.

Accordingly, the Local Administrative Computing Service Disability Countermeasure Headquarters, headed by Vice Minister Ko Ki-dong, held the first countermeasure headquarters meeting at around 21:30 at the National Information Resources Management Center in Daejeon. At the countermeasures headquarters meeting, the Director of the National Information Resources Management Agency and the Director of the Digital Government Office reported in detail the status of administrative network failures, details of recovery measures, and responses by related agencies, and discussed recovery schedules and plans.

Prior to this, Vice Minister Ko Ki-dong presided over a situation review meeting at 6 p.m. today (17th) in which related organizations including the Director of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, the National Information Resources Management Agency, and the Korea Local Information Development Institute participated. Vice Minister Koh ordered rapid recovery and requested that measures be prepared and quickly implemented to prevent the public from being disadvantaged by thoroughly analyzing and taking action on the impact on public services caused by local administrative computer service failures.

Meanwhile, Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min, who is on a business trip to the United States for bilateral meetings with the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the signing of an MOU with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), has canceled the remainder of his schedule and is returning home early.

In order to minimize damage caused by computer failures this afternoon, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security requested cooperation from all administrative agencies through an official letter to receive hand-delivered civil complaints at each civil service office and process them retroactively based on the originally scheduled processing date.
