Lee Seung-yeop’s 11-Match Winning Streak Delayed Due to Rain

Gwangju, July 23rd 2023, 14:33 – Lee Seung-yeop’s impressive 11-match winning streak will have to wait until next week to continue its course. The highly anticipated 11th match between Doosan Bears and KIA Tigers, scheduled to take place at the Gwangju-Kia Champions Field on the 23rd, was abruptly canceled due to relentless monsoon rain. This marks the second consecutive day of cancellation due to inclement weather.

The Imdong district in Gwangju Metropolitan City, where the Champions Field is located, experienced heavy rainfall as dark clouds loomed over the area since the previous day. The forecast predicted heavy rain to persist throughout the afternoon, exacerbating the condition of the playing field.

The KIA players attempted to warm up and start their preparation at the airport at 2:00 pm. However, they were forced to quickly retreat due to the downpour and unfavorable weather conditions. Assessing the continuous rainfall and the deteriorating ground conditions, the KBO Game Management Committee ultimately made the decision to cancel the match.

For KIA, this canceled game adds to a total of 15 games affected by rain this season, comprising of seven home games and eight away games. As for Doosan, it marks their 12th game affected by weather conditions, with six being home games and six away games.

Doosan’s aspiration for a club-leading 11 consecutive wins will have to wait for their match against Lotte on the 25th at Jamsil Stadium.

Under the guidance of coach Lee Seung-yeop, Doosan achieved their remarkable 10-game winning streak by defeating KIA 5-2 on the 21st. This remarkable achievement not only sets a new record for the club’s longest hitting streak but also stands as the longest hitting streak recorded by a rookie player. /sunny@osen.co.kr
