Legendary Baseball Manager Shigeo Nagashima Supports Women’s Baseball Tournament
Shigeo Nagashima, the lifetime honorary manager of the Yomiuri Giants, has joined forces with Hanamaki Higashi High School to support the ”2nd Michinoku Coca-Cola Bottling Cup Ihatov Hanamaki Tournament”. This women’s baseball tournament aims to popularize the sport and revitalize the region, a cause that Nagashima is passionate about. A special award in his name will be created to support Hanamaki’s efforts to become a new base for women’s baseball.
The tournament will take place in Hanamaki City on the 7th and 8th, featuring three university teams and nine high school teams from across the country. Approximately 350 players and coaches will stay at Watari Onsen in the city, enjoying Hanamaki’s attractions beyond baseball.
Hanamaki Higashi High School, renowned for producing major leaguers such as Yusei Kikuchi and Shohei Otani, is also a hub for aspiring female athletes. The tournament is expected to draw parents from all over the country, fostering a sense of community and exchange among participants.
