Legislative elections in Togo: Overwhelming victory for the ruling party with 108 seats out of 113

The Union for the Republic (UNIR, the ruling party) largely won the legislative elections of April 29, with 108 seats out of 113, according to the provisional results proclaimed Saturday evening by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).

The remaining 5 seats went to 4 parties and a group of opposition parties: Alliance of Democrats for Integral Development (ADDI: 2 seats), National Alliance for Change (ANC: 1 seat), Dynamics for the Majority of the People (DMP, group of parties: 1 seat) and Democratic Forces for the Republic (FDR: 1 seat).

“These elections saw the participation of 2,565,623 voters for 4,203,711 registered, i.e. a participation rate of 61.03%,” said the president of the CENI.

Remember that the Togolese went to the polls on April 29 to elect 113 deputies and 179 regional councilors. The results of the regional elections will be given in the coming days.

A total of 332 political parties, groupings of political parties or independent candidates were in the running for the legislative elections and 241 lists for the regional ones. This is the first time that Togo is organizing regional elections. FIN
