Leitz Phone 2 unboxing review: Leica certification plus 1-inch main external mirror is really nothing to miss

Last year SoftBank launched the Leica Phone smartphone manufactured by SHARP and supervised by Leica. With its unique camera capabilities, although expensive, it is still quite popular. It recently announced the launch of the second generation product, which was renamed the Leitz Phone 2. It will be sold with upgraded hardware, and parallel imports will be available in Hong Kong soon Is the current generation of such powerful camera systems? Try it now everyone.

fuselage details

The Leitz Phone 2 uses a 6.6-inch 2,730 x 1,260 pixel perforated Pro IGZO OLED screen that supports a fingerprint sensor under the screen, etc. The body is 161mm high, 77mm wide, 9.3mm thick , and weighs 211g.

The body of the Leitz Phone 2 has been changed to a square design, with a bright white back and chrome silver frame, and a magnetic lens cover is also included. The body is quite heavy, and can hardly be operated with one hand.

There’s also a dedicated silicone phone case for better one-handed grip.

There is a microphone, USB Type-C slot and a speaker at the bottom of the machine.

On the right are the volume keys and the power key.

There are knurled textures on both sides of the fuselage for a more stable grip.

The top of the machine has a microphone, two out of three card slots and a 3.5mm headphone slot, which can support microSD card expansion up to 1TB.

Viewing a picture is 3,440 x 1,440 pixels, using a chrome-plated square frame, using the screen frame is thicker, and the full-screen viewing effect is average. The brightness is excellent, the colors are bright and clear, the details are clearly displayed, and the image rendering ability is strong, making the image more realistic.

Running score and performance

Leitz Phone 2 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, 12GB RAM with 512GB ROM, Android 12 system, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, 5,000mAh battery, IP65/68 dustproof and waterproof, etc. Through the application program “AnTuTu”, the score is 844,404 points, the performance is average, and it is much lower than other flagship models this year, which may be due to the cooling capacity of the left side.

Shooting power

Leitz Phone 2 has a 47.2-megapixel one-inch CMOS main external lens and a 2-megapixel depth-of-field lens. And a 12.6-megapixel front camera.

Although the phone has only one lens, it also supports 2x zoom and 0.7x ultra-wide angle shooting. It has less shooting functions, only portraits, 8K videos, HDR videos, etc.

However, it has the unique “Leitz Looks” function, which provides the shooting effects of three iconic Leica M lenses: Summilux 28, Summilux 35 and Noctilux 50, as well as three filters: Monochrome, Cinema Classic and Cinema Contemporary.

Shooting in a rainy environment, it can still shoot bright and clear images in no environment, and can present the color of the scene environment, with accurate focus and clear details.

After night, the ability to expose the 1-inch CMOS outsole is even more noticeable. The brightness of the image is quite high, and the details have deteriorated, but it is still at a good level. Focus accuracy and shutter speed are ideal.

When shooting in wide-angle mode at night, the exposure capability is still quite exaggerated, even slightly overexposed, and can retain a lot of building details.

Shot with Summilux 28.

Shot with Summilux 35 with Cinema Classic filter.

Shot with a Noctilux 50 with a Contemporary Cinema filter.

Shot with a Summilux 35 with a monochrome filter.

Thanks to the filter, the color performance of the image is more distinctive, but still a certain distance from the original Leica camera.

Summary and Evaluation

Leitz Phone 2 is available only in “Leica White” color, with 512GB ROM and 12GB RAM, and the price is as high as HK$14,800. The price of Leitz Phone 2 is quite high. Although the performance is not outstanding, the shape, screen and lens are excellent, and the display ability of the screen is strong. In terms of shooting capability, the one-inch CMOS outsole is of course unbeatable, providing excellent exposure capability, shutter speed, focusing speed, and strong color rendering. However, whether “Leitz Looks” and the three filters are really “Leica” is a matter of opinion. Personally, I don’t think it’s too obvious. Whether it’s n worth the price or not depending on the interest of Leica fans.
