three young girls are in critical condition following a car crash at their lemonade stand in Morganton, N.C. The incident occurred when Haley Erin McCorkle, 24, allegedly failed to yield while pulling out of a driveway, resulting in a collision.
The impact sent the other vehicle, a Nissan Altima, careening off the road and into the yard where the girls, ages 7, 8, and 9, were operating their lemonade stand. The vehicle struck the stand, causing critical injuries to all three children. The girls were rushed to area hospitals; two were airlifted, and one was transported by ambulance.
McCorkle faces charges of failure to yield the right of way causing serious bodily injury. Authorities report that neither speed nor impairment appear to be factors in the crash.The road was shut down for two hours as the North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the scene of the car crash and the role of the driver.
Elizabeth, a sister of one of the injured girls, recounted the harrowing experience. “I was right there, and it just happened so fast,” she said. “I just ran and got my mom.”
